The Politics of Hate

March 4, 2008 · Leave a Comment

A vile and putrid affair is underway in America and I participated in it yesterday.

If you read yesterday’s post, you can see that I permitted myself to indulge in a bulemic emotional purge. I regret that today. Yesterday, my response to the troglodyte thinking of so many political pundits and other people was to spew my own hate.

I say this: there is a hatred-baiting phase of Americans politics that is being played out right now in front of us.

Read this by Malkin.

The provocation of hatred, the baiting of Democrats and Republicans to overreact by throwing a barrage of hate-filled messages into the airwaves (and the print media) is revolting and repugnant.

Are Malkin and Hawkins tryting to incite hatred on both sides of the political aisle? I once heard that it takes two friends to stab you in the back: the one that did it and the one who told you about it. Malkin and Hawkins appear to be inciting hatred by dredging it up from one group and offering it to the other.

I wonder what happened in Germany 1938 thru 1945 that caused the good German people to hate, tolerate, and participate in anti-Jewish propaganda? Was there an equivalent mouthpiece for hatred as what we see today in America? I don’t know but I go on record as saying I deplore the tactics employed by Malkin, Hawkins, Hannity, et al, to bring down the ‘opposition’ instead of raising up the level of discourse.

Who is causing Americans to hate? Is it the “opposition” research people who dig up offensive events from somebody’s past and display it for everyone to see? OR is it the ’spin makers’ that find some way to spin an innocuous event into an animus rising emotion? In Hannity’s America, all liberals and democrats are objects of denigration inbetween the Jerry Springer-like religious stories. I don’t want any visa to Hannity’s America, thank you.

Even if its John Hawkins rejection of a Republican smear, it somehow comes across ‘as this smear isn’t strong enough to be used against Democrats, go get a better one’.

What has happened to America, the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave?
