“The Republican Party of Wisconsin’s attempt to make its 2008 convention in Stevens Point a show of unity on the eve of a difficult election campaign fell apart when U.S. Rep. James Sensenbrenner used his speech to trash Assembly Speaker Mike Huebsch.
The state’s senior Republican at the federal level was furious with the top state Republican’s moves to block implementation of the Real ID Act.”- The Capital Times
Oh, yeah, that’s right our FEDERAL representative (who is out of touch with Wisconsin voters on numerous issues) blasts out at the Republican Assembly Speaker in Wisconsin because: “ In Wisconsin, last week, Huebsch and other Republicans joined Democrats in backing a budget repair bill that strips Real ID of funding necessary for its implementation.”
Now, I personally like the idea that Republicans and Democrats came together to strip out funding for Sensenbrenner’s pet project ‘Real ID’. I think this is a horrible idea and wrote about it previously.
I have told you many times that the mainstream political parties are the problem. Rep. Sensenbrenner invoked the power of the Republican Party when he attacked the Speaker Huebesch: “We need to act like Republicans and vote like Republicans,” the Menomonee Falls Republican declared, in a pointed jab at Huebsch, a West Salem legislator who leads an Assembly chamber that has a narrow Republican majority.
“Unfortunately Speaker Huebsch decided to push it through the Assembly, and he did so in a manner that does not fix the problem of over-taxing and replaces transportation fees with more state borrowing. Exactly the same move that helped destroy the Republican brand nationally,“ griped Sensenbrenner.”
So there you have it. The power of the national Party over the power of the people’s wishes in Wisconsin. That is Sensenbrenner’s view of the world.
And what does Speaker Huebsch say? “We as Republicans do not place our faith in government but in each other.” How could the Speaker say it more eloquently than that? Good for Huebsch.
So , Rep. Sensenbrenner, you can put that in your pipe and smoke it. If you believe in small government as a conservative, you simply must give up on Real ID.
The real pain came when the Democrat governor did this: “A total of $22 million that had been earmarked for Real ID was instead directed to the general fund. Democratic Governor Jim Doyle vetoed the move,…”
How sad that the Democrat Governor votes for more federal controls. How ironic that the Republican Speaker votes against Real ID and votes with the people of Wisconsin.
Must have been “Opposite Day” recently. What else could it be?
