The 321 Candidates for President

July 13, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Fed up with Liberalism? Can’t stand phony Republicans? Want an alternative to McCain and Obama?

There are over 300 candidates running for President.  Surely one of these candidates reflects what you want in a President, eh?

Of course, many citizens running for President are doing so because they live in a country that values freedom and democracy. There are few restrictions that prevent one from running for office. For President there are only three requirements: natural born citizen, reside here for 14 years, and be 35 years old or more.

Everyone wants to be the grand poohbah, don’t we? We want to make a statement and show that we are just as good or better than any other candidate out there. (And some of you actually are.) Yet, it would be remarkable in itself for one’s campaign to be noticed by anyone.  So what is it that causes people to know the name of Bob Barr, the Libertarian candidate for President? Or Ralph Nader, the Independent candidate? Or Chuck Baldwin, the Constitution Party candidate?

Media attention, party marketing, and endorsements. Without these three things, it will be impossible for anyone to be considered a viable candidate. Yet, the lack of viability should not constrain a person from running for President. You don’t know what you can, and cannot, do unless and until you try.

Here are a few people who are trying to become President. Take a look at their web sites and make you own decision.

Ralph Nader   ( Independent)

Chuck Baldwin  ( Constitution Party)

Bob Barr ( Libertarian Party)

Cynthia McKinney (Green Party Candidate- just announced)

As we get a little closer to the election, a review of the other minor party candidates is appropriate.

As always, I encourage you to vote for the person you want to be President.

“Always vote for principle, though you may vote alone, and you may cherish the sweetest reflection that your vote is never lost.” — John Quincy Adams
